The super savvy owners of Embellish, Lisa and Wendy met right here in Austin during their first semester of MBA school at UT.  They became fast friends and as all girly girls do, they spent time getting manis and pedis together.  Working on a college girl’s budget and with a penchant for research, they quickly realized that there was a need for a chic, stylish salon that was clean, budget friendly and catered to a client that really wanted a place to get away, relax, shop and feel pampered!

Okay, so we admit… Valentine’s Day makes us a bit dessert obsessed but what’s wrong with a little sugar-rush?  Valentine’s Day may have passed but with all the birthdays coming up in the approaching weeks, these cake pops might just take the not-so-figurative-cake.  Bakerella.com provides perfect step-by-step directions to create the perfect home made treat for your friends.  Just to make sure we are promoting really great ideas, we decided to try this DIY recipe for ourselves (it had nothing to do with how much we have been craving cake).  We can say, from experience, they are as easy as they sound.  You must employ some patience and a bit of time but these little cake-poppers are sure to please, impress, and delight. Enjoy!

Inspiration: Sweet Pink and Yellow

Monday, February 8th, 2010

If you’re planning any kind of party this spring, a super cute and festive color scheme we have fallen for is a pink and yellow.  This sweet color palette is perfect for a bridal party, baby shower, or anything in between.  The combination of the soft pink and bright yellow is a perfect spring-time fit with a flirty flare that can be pretty easy to accomplish.

Lakeway Wedding Soire

Monday, February 1st, 2010

We were fortunate enough to sponsor a fabulous event here in Austin called the Lakeway Wedding Soiree.  The beautiful Lakeway Resort & Spa was only made even more magnificent by the perfect weather, giving the event a breathtaking view.  Our lounge furniture was displayed in two large lounge areas with décor and floral design accents by Strong Productions, Brenda Abbott Floral Design, Floral Renaissance and Exquisite Petals.  Wedding and Event Planners from Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas attended and were able to mingle while enjoying the fabulous menu by Lakeway Resort & Spa.  A gorgeous cake design that emulated the bodice of a wedding dress was created by the always impressive Simon Lee Bakery.

The room was divided into three separate themes….an outdoor chic foyer, a white with orange and fuschia accents theme and a black with silver, green & fuschia accents.  This was such a fun event to sponsor and participate in, we look forward to next year!

Michelle + Mike Forever

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

As promised a few months ago, we are finally posting one of our favorite weddings.  Michelle and Mike were not only a totally amazing couple to work with, but their style was completely unique and fantastically glamorous.  We also must mention, they were pretty darn smart too because they secured one of our favorite photographers, Jennifer Lindberg, to capture every magical moment of their special day.

The design for Michelle and Mike’s wedding was contemporary with accents of magenta and papaya.  Florist Coby Neal emphasized the use of magenta and white orchids, mango callas, apricot roses and colored aluminum wiring to create structural and massive floral designs.  Each floral arrangement, particularly the Bride’s bouquet, was absolutely breathtaking.

The ceremony, held at Rough Hollow Yacht Club, included incredible views, artistic floral arrangements, and custom details.  As the Bride made her way down the aisle, Divisi Strings played her favorite song by Iron & Wine, “Sunset Soon Forgotten.”  After the ceremony, the newlyweds had a quick costume change and arrived at their reception (at the Lakeway Resort and Spa) only to be surprised by their favorite DJ entertainer, Sammy T.  Sammy T got the party dancing for the rest of the night with live songs mixed with club and electronica vibes.

At the end of the night, an amazing fireworks display from the Vistas Ballroom balcony offered the perfect closure to a perfect evening.

Thank you Michelle and Mike for including us in your special day!

Inspiration: Red Hot Wedding

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Planning a Valentine’s Day themed wedding? Red is not only the traditional route for this wedding style, it’s also a color that is totally versatile.  This hot hue can be a part of any kind of wedding from modern and edgy to rustic and relaxed.  We love red for it’s ability to give a huge amount of color, even when included in the smallest details.  It’s also an ideal wedding color because it can be paired with almost any color and look totally fabulous.

Iconic Inspiration

We would like to take a moment to obsess over a recent article from WedLuxe, Canada’s Luxury Wedding Magazine.  The magazine put together a few divine inspiration boards including styles from three truly iconic fashion designers – Coco Chanel, Philip Treacy, and Ralph Lauren.  The Philip Treacy iconic style takes the recent trend of purple and feathers to an entirely new level.  Enjoy the below images, courtesy of WedLuxe.com

DIY Bridesmaid Invitations

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Call us old fashioned, but we love idea of sending out Bridesmaid invitations.  They are so personal and and can be completely customized to fit your style.  These ladies will be standing next to you on one of the most important days of your life, we’re thinking that is worth a little bit of extra effort.  So, when we stumbled upon these absolutely adorable do-it-yourself Bridesmaid invitations, we had to give it a shot.  Surprisingly, this project was actually doable for those of us that aren’t artistically-inclined and, with a little effort, they actually turn out pretty darn cute.  Please enjoy inspiration and visuals courtesy of Anna Bond of  Rifle Design, posted on oncewed.com.

Jacky + Peter Forever

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Jacky and Peter were such a special couple to us.  The sweetness of this couple made them a true joy to work with.   Jacky, Peter, and most of their guests lived in Houston, so while this was a destination wedding, it still included all the comforts of home.  The wedding was designed to have a classic style with accents of white, green, and papaya with a subtle outdoor rustic feel.  We emphasized the use of hydrangea and satin ribbons creating soft, bountiful floral arrangements scattered throughout the event.

Two days prior to the outdoor ceremony, to be held at the Hyatt Lost Pines‘ Riversong Lawn, a realization that there was a high chance of rain encouraged us to have a tent set up and to bring in 40 umbrellas for guests.  Despite the pouring rain throughout the day, the wedding was perfect.  The guests pulled up their hems…rolled up their trousers and had a blast running in the rain, making this day even more memorable.

The reception, hosted in the Baron’s Ballroom inside the Hyatt, was accentuated with the soft floral arrangements, in addition to the floral balls of large white garden roses which hung from the ceiling.  Being a true Texas couple, Jacky and Peter chose to serve delicious comfort food including a “mini slider” station.  Their reception also offered some fun aspects that were unique to the couple including a “make your own trail mix” bar with custom bags for their guests to take home treats and a photo booth with props that allowed the guests to dress up and create a custom photo book for the couple.  For their guests, the Bride donated to her employer, the HOPE organization, by providing favors of handmade bracelets that were made by African artisans. Finally, as the couple made their exit, their guests sent them off with a trail of 300 sparklers.

The beautiful images below were captured by Jenn, from Jennifer Lindberg Weddings.  All floral arrangements were artfully created by Floral Renaissance of Austin.

Christine + Karl Forever

Friday, December 18th, 2009

As wedding planners in Austin, we are blessed to work with some truly great couples.  Christine and Karl are one of those couples.  Living in Corpus Christi, this duo had to plan their destination wedding from afar, which is why they chose to bring us in.  We loved this wedding because it had such an intimate and romantic atmosphere.  Set at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort just outside of Austin, the ceremony took place outdoors at the Puesta de Colorado Park, overlooking the Colorado River, and the reception was held at the LBJ Pavilion. The talented Cory Ryan, from Cory Ryan Photography, captured the magical day for us to enjoy.

To achieve the romantic, vintage style the couple was looking for, the wedding included  accents of pinks, yellows, greens and cream with a rustic feel.  The floral arrangements, created by Jennifer’s Gardens, emphasized the use of amaranthus, curly willow, eucalyptus, roses, orchids, callas, and ranunculas to carry the vintage flare throughout the day.

At the reception, the newlyweds were surprised by the Bride’s father who serenaded them with the classic “American Pie.”

The Groom’s cake design was a replica of the “Old” Texas territory for the history buff.  Both the Groom’s cake and the wedding cake were artfully designed and created by Coco Paloma Desserts.
